CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Mario Mario
CANON: The Mario games- all of them.
HISTORY:
There's a catastrophe. Mario fixes it. Rinse and repeat.

STRENGTHS:

Mario is brave. His courage is as widely applied as possible, from the most astounding of world-threatening adventures to trying a new type of food. There's just about next to nothing Mario fears and with that comes a confidence that he can overcome any trial, master any skill and live his life just the way he wants to. When there's a problem, he'll be there to solve it with a fearless 'letsa go!' It takes a stout-hearted fellow to face all the things Mario has and come out grinning, but he has.

He is also has an accepting attitude. He has seen and done so much his heart is wide open to everything. He takes everyone on face value and judges them by the content of their character- with a positive, benefit of the doubt approach. Everyone is a friend unless they're an enemy... and even then, they can still be a friend. He reacts to new developments, no matter how bizarre or ostensibly horrifying with curiosity. He retains a childlike sense of wonder, despite all he has seen already.

But more than anything else, Mario is reliable. Those that know him can take comfort in the fact that if he's needed, Mario will always -always- be there for them. No matter how much the world seems to change, Mario's heart will remain the same. He does every job with the same can-do attitude no matter how big or small, always has a wry sense of humour and will always live life to the fullest. Call his name and he'll be there. Loyally willing to go through anything because what else would he do? Let someone down?

FLAWS:

However Mario's innocence can be to his detriment. He is a little naive, often falling for deceptions many would see right through. He's no dummy of course, but that same kind-hearted soul that gives him strength keeps him from questioning the motives of others when perhaps he should. He's unwilling to compromise his values even a fraction, which while admirable, is not always practical.

He is also not very proactive, being reactive by nature. Whilst he's always up and about doing something, Mario is by nature a fixer of problems, not a preventer. In medical terms, he treats symptoms not the cause. When Mario runs out of things to do, he'll often just find a comfortable (and not always appropriate) place to have a nap while he waits for the next adventure to start.

And equal but opposite to the above, Mario is quite impulsive. When the starting pistol of his next task comes along, no matter how small, Mario will rush in. This makes him quite easy to distract or goad into action. His courage can be to his detriment here, as he's willing to take on any challenge and rarely plans ahead.

CANON ABILITIES:
What can't he do!?

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Mario Mario
AGE: 99
POSITION: Mario, true to his nature of being the jack of all trades and master of all of them teaches elective classes, substitutes for almost any class and somehow also has time to do janitorial work.
AU BACKSTORY:

🍄Mario's life began with adventure. Several prophecies foretold his birth, but it was the one declaring he would be the eternal rival to the king of fire, the almighty dragon Bowser, that caused the first trouble. As nothing more than a newborn, Mario and his younger twin Luigi, were stolen from their parents by underlings of Bowser's father, Bowser himself only a few years old at this point. Due to happenstance, Mario was accidentally dropped into the hands of the Fae creatures, the Yoshi. They valiantly (with some help from Mario, even as a baby) rescued Luigi from the clutches of the Koopa Clan. But not knowing where the children belonged, with only the names sown into their hats to identify them, the babies seemed likely to stay in the Outlands.
🍄The Yoshi's, however, were determined to return them home. The resulting second adventure did indeed eventually return the twins to Brooklyn where they belonged. But not without battling their way through the second wave of Bowser's father's minions- desperate to prevent his son's rival from reaching adulthood. The boys were home at last.
🍄However, a second prophecy caused another adventure- still with the Bros. as nothing but babies. Deep in the Outlands, in a region known as the Mushroom Kingdom, the people living there were caught in an endless cycle of fate, destined to repeat itself endlessly with each generation. Bowser's father, now half insane from his failures, gathered some of the most powerful magical items and beings in the Outlands to his side, focused into a single spell intended to change the future. The phenomenal power of destiny was released, but not destroyed and grounded itself in seven children- Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, Wario, the young Bowser and a newborn Yoshi. The now truly mad dragon king attempted to usurp this power for himself but failed thanks to further interference from the babies, even his own son, and Yoshi. The old dragon king was destroyed by his own hubris, leaving his young son to be the new king of fire. Few were left who understood the nature of the Star Children, and those powerful entities that helped the previous fire king cast the spells are staying tip lipped. Now rather than each generation reliving the story, these seven would do so themselves.
🍄These children, touched by destiny, were now the sole participants in their own personal cycle of fate. So long as they play their roles in the stories that unfold around them, they will continue to live to do so again. In Mario's case, he is the cheerful hero, doing good deeds and being friend to all.
🍄Mario's childhood adventures faded from memory, as all baby memories do, finally returned home for what seemed like good. Mario and Luigi had a relatively uneventful childhood. Mario attended medical school and earned his doctorate in record time, but left the practice quite early to take over the family plumbing business when Papa Mario passed away.
🍄Whilst earning some extra cash as a carpenter, Mario's first adult adventure began. Donkey Kong left the Outlands, fulfilling his role as the wild card lead by his heart rogue star child, kidnapping Mario's then-girlfriend Pauline. He rescued her from the otherworldly ape in a death-defying high rise adventure.
🍄Things would only get stranger from there. When the Mario Bros. were contracted to clear some pipes they found them filled with monsters strangely familiar, Bowser's minions encroaching on the world. Once they were cleared out, the Bros. dove into the other world and thus began the defining adventure of Mario's life.
🍄Not just overcoming an entire invasion with his bare hands and his guts. Mario could do that in his sleep. The ultimate adventure was love. From the very first second he saw Princess Peach, the new ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, his heart belonged to her and his inability to tell her so has been the only task his courage has not been able to face.
🍄Thus began the grand cycles of Mario's life! Countless times he would pass back and forth between the Earth and the Outlands, at first to avert disaster but in time he began to journey there just for fun. He has many times battled, fought beside and played around with the other Star Children. Largely these trips were in the Mushroom Kingdom, but he adventured in enough places in the Outlands he has become well known, though often is known only as the Moustached Man or Red Cap. He would return home with a happy heart and reinvent himself again.
🍄Over time he accumulated an enormous number of professions and skills, but spends some time refreshing his knowledge on each one- for example every now and then he decides to be a doctor again, catches up on medical science and starts treating. The only exception to this was his tour of duty in Vietnam, the only time of his life he won't even speak about. In his heart, however, he will always be a humble plumber and it will always be the profession he titles himself with no matter what job he's actually doing.
🍄Always where he's needed, he has been a part of the Daybreak staff for quite a while, occasionally taking a sabbatical to do something else that interests him. His true nature has been much speculated on, but to this day no one knows what Mario's deal is. He doesn't seem particularly interested himself and prefers to think of himself as being just the world's luckiest man and a very spry nonagenarian.
🍄He has only recently returned from his latest bout with Bowser, which took him on a grand tour of the best and worst of the Outlands. Early on in the adventure, he came across the disembodied spirit of a young boy who had forgotten even his name but desired to save his sister's soul who was in Bowser's clutches. The spirit bounded to Mario's cap and was officially renamed Cappy. The pair rescued Peach and his sister together, but Cappy has chosen to remain with Mario- because he's gotten a taste for adventure too.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION:

Next to none! He's just a little more talkative, really.

RACE: Human, but good luck proving it.
SECRET SOCIETY:
Mario is not affiliated with any secret society aside from Daybreak itself.

POWERS:

Short version: Simple zest for life.

Long version:

As one of the seven Star Children Mario receives vitality by being true to his nature. In Mario's case, by living life to the fullest and doing good deeds his life grows longer. Thanks to the sheer amount of love for life Mario has he has achieved both an ageless quality and more amazingly he possesses more lifeforce than one man can contain, allowing him to avoid death- when it seems he's about to die, he catches a glimpse of fate's plan and acts to protect himself, almost like he's been there and lived through it before. There is, of course, a limit to this- he must replenish the life force (extra lives) by doing good deeds and having adventures (accumulating points). And if a situation is truly hopeless, nothing can save even him.

Mario's huge number of talents have nothing to do with being a Star Child. He's just... like that. He has simply had the good fortune to live long enough to learn whatever catches his fancy next.

His overflowing lifeforce grants him phenomenal physical capabilities, exceeding Olympic levels of fitness in every area and with almost limitless stamina. The most obvious area is his agility, acrobatically bounding around and having such powerful leg strength his major method of dispatching enemies is to leap on their heads, stomping down at the moment of impact. The force of this is astounding. And boy, can he swing a hammer! And throwing? Forget about it. A good grip and leverage, he'll toss a guy into space. His durability is less impressive, even if he has a high pain threshold, but he makes up for this with his quick reactions and inventiveness- he can come up with a way to avoid or even counter most methods of attack. Many of his opponents are vanquished by their own attempts to defeat Mario.

His many adventures have garnered a huge supply of specialist equipment, which he keeps safely sealed in boxes marked with a question mark or exclamation point. These items vary from the relatively sensible, such as costumes that grant him the powers of mythological creatures, to bless him with control over ice and wind, to capes granting flight. Or the utterly ludicrous, like giant shoes he can ride in, frog and penguin outfits, puffing him into a floating balloon and a cannon he straps over his head. It's a testament to Mario's easygoing nature and inventiveness that he can find a use for all of it. One quality shared by almost all of his items is that they are delicate and can rarely take many hits from enemies. Thankfully he can repair them when he returns home by placing them back in their special boxes. There are a few items that can be considered Mario's 'default' equipment he'll take with him anytime there's danger, but he switches it up based on his task otherwise.

The default equipment includes his most recent piece of equipment, that could also be called a partner- Cappy, who always rests on his head, is a powerful ghost that takes the form of his signature cap. Cappy shares his ghostly power of possession with Mario, so long as Mario can throw the cap onto the target (sufficiently powerful beings may need to be subdued first and even more powerful entities are simply beyond Cappy's power entirely)- they gain Mario's signature moustache and bright blue eyes whilst possessed. Cappy can transform into a matching hat for any outfit Mario wears. His other other signature item is a huge hammer with which to bonk things. He likes to let people think he relies on the power of a Fire Flower to control flames and that certainly makes it less energy consuming. But in truth, he learnt the technique known as Firebrand from a fire god. Which is a thing. This grants him the ability to create and control flames at will.

His zen-like metaphysical mastery of plumbing exceeds human limits and allows him to shoot through pipes of any size and emerge safely on the other side. Well. Zen-like metaphysical mastery of plumbing and the fact so much of his heart and thus Star Child power is linked to being a plumber. Very useful for getting around.

HOUSING: No preference.
